Mixing Plant Automation for Greencore Chilled Desserts

Greencore was installing a new mixing plant for preparation of ingredients for inclusion in various milk-based desserts products at its facility in Evercreech. IJ Controls were awarded a contract to develop the PLC and HMI software to automate the plant. Working with the production team, process engineers and the installation contractors at the site our engineers analysed the functional requirements in order to create a Functional Specification document. This document was approved by the client and the software was subsequently written to implement the requirements.

The automation requirement included:

• Vessel Filling, as specified by user created recipes
• Vessel Heating and Cooling
• Ingredient Mixing
• Vessel Discharging
• Vessel Cleaning (CIP)

Having developed and tested the software our engineers installed the software on the plant and worked with the installation team to fully commission the plant.

The finished system enables the plant to be operated by only one person and product quality is protected by the recipe system which ensures that products are created according to the defined specification.
